Rusty stood by his wife during the first trial despite saying he never wanted to see her again after learning of the murders, but in 2005 the two divorced and in 2006 he married Laura Arnold. 'I don't think people understand how shy and reclusive and how afraid Andrea is, especially since all this publicity descended on her. People spoke with Parnham's legal partner, Wendell Odom, who said these days Yates watches videos of her children smiling and laughing, walks around the garden at the mental hospital and does her best to avoid others. Moving on: Rusty and Andrea divorced in 2005 and in 2006 he married Laura Arnold (above) Yates meanwhile was struggling in prison, and had gone on hunger strikes and been placed on suicide watch. That conviction was successfully appealed however after a key prosecution witness who testified that Yates got the idea for the drowning from an episode of Law & Order had his claims shot down by producers of the show. She was then sentenced to life in prison. In the end she was convicted on both counts of capital murder for the deaths of Noah, John and Mary. She said that through it all though she prayed they would all go to heaven. Her defense team argued that she was insane and she entered a plea of not guilty.ĭuring the trial she testified that she had to murder her children, saying on the stand: 'If I didn't do it, they would be tormented by Satan.' Prosecutors in the case sought the death penalty, and though they acknowledged her mental health issues they argued that she still knew right from wrong. Rusty left his wife with the children for an hour the morning of their murders, and in those 60 minutes she was able to end all of their lives. Her depression got worse when her father died in March 2001, so bad in fact that psychiatrist Mohammad Saeed told Rusty that he wife should not be alone with the children.
